I was invited to do a presentation for the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Extension on August 23, 2016. For OSHER members, the video is available on their website. It requires a password.
From the very first user-friendly photograph by Daguerre
…to the unbelievable contemporary street photographer known as JR:
2014 Installation at the Pantheon in Paris – Giant portraits of Paris pedestrians.
2017 US Mexico – San Diego border installation
Here is the description of the presentation in the OSHER catalog:
No longer does anyone dispute that photography is a legitimate art form. It communicates an idea, a concept, a feeling, or a thought in a visual way. Street Photography has been the most vibrant form of photographic art since Henri Cartier-Bresson discovered the Leica in the 1930s and began a lifelong passion for taking images.
This presentation will trace the beginnings of street photography to the present day in Europe, emphasizing the well-known artists who make this medium so exciting.
